Two Killed In Fiery Vehicle Crash At S 27th & Sewell

By News Nov 5, 2020 | 10:24 AM

At 2 a.m. on Thursday, November 5th, police were called to S 27th and Swewll after a black 2017 Chrysler 300 collided with a large tree.

An officer approached the vehicle and a fire erupted.  That officer and several others attempted to extinguish the flames and pull two occupants to safety.  However, due to the damage the vehicle sustained from the impact and the dangerous conditions the fire created officers were forced to retreat.  Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived on scene shortly after and the fire was extinguished, however, both occupants were declared deceased.

Officers canvassed the area and located neighbors with security video that showed the vehicle traveling southbound on S 27th Street at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.

Our staff is working to notify the families of the deceased.

Two officers sustained lacerations while trying to extract the victim’s from the vehicle and were treated by LFR at the scene.

The Lincoln Police Department extends a message of gratitude to all the neighbors who tried to assist in putting out the fire after hearing the collision.  An LES employee stopped with a fire extinguisher and neighbors used garden hoses to desperately help extinguish the fire alongside officers.
