By News Mar 30, 2021 | 10:52 AM

Lincoln Police say a man who got a notification on his security system was able to spot two burglars on video breaking into a neighbor’s garage around 5:00 Tuesday morning. It happened in the 3200 block of Wilderness Hills Blvd.

Officer Erin Spilker says after reviewing the video the man spotted two people walking through the complex parking lot checking the garage doors.  When the neighbor came out he saw the pair inside someone’s garage and yelled at them to stop.  The two burglars took off running as the neighbor gave chase and they dropped most of the items they were carrying in their hands along the way.

As officers arrived in the area, they were unable to locate the two.  The owner of the garage identified the items that were dropped as tools that were taken from his garage and had an estimated value of $620.    This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

Spilker says they have seen an increase in garage burglaries located at apartment complexes in the southeast area of Lincoln.  From 2019 to 2020 was saw an increase of 173% with a total loss from garages in 2020 was estimated around $20,000.  “It is easy to forget to check your garage door at the end of the day.  Set an alarm and make it a routine, your 9PM routine,” Spilker says
