Terrapin Turtle Stolen Sunday

LPD officers responded to a report of a burglary in the 2900 block of P Street late Sunday morning.  Officers contacted a 48-year-old reporting party, who explained that he was housesitting for a friend.

The reporting party explained that an unknown person or persons had entered the residence and stole a terrapin turtle (terrapin is an Algonquian word meaning “little turtle”) from its habitat, as well as its food.

The turtle is approximately 4-5 inches in diameter and is named is “Ninja.”

There were no signs of forced entry and nothing else was taken from the residence.

Officers processed the scene for digital and forensic evidence, and this investigation is ongoing.
