Frost Praises UNMC Partnership, Players Being Responsible During Pandemic Season

By News Dec 10, 2020 | 3:36 PM

Nebraska football fought to get its season back. And since that season started, coach Scott Frost says the team has been responsible in staying healthy.

“It’s probably a little bit of luck,” Frost said. “I compliment the guys on being smart and not putting themselves at risk and doing what’s right for the team.”

Doing what’s right for the team has meant Nebraska will go into Saturday’s game with Minnesota having never had to be the school to call off a game due to COVID-19 positives within their program. This week alone, Indiana, Purdue, and Michigan are all out due to the virus. With Champions Week still ahead, 10 games have been lost so far this season.

But staying healthy doesn’t mean there haven’t been scares and a need for actions, says Frost.

“We’ve had over 20, over the course of this season, positive antigen tests,” Frost said. “And I think all but one or two were false positives.”

Frost said even with so many false positives, they take any positive seriously with quarantine and contact tracing protocols. That action is boosted with the universities partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

“Every school has different access to the ability to PCR people and get the results back,” Frost said. “We get it done really quickly here because of our cooperation with UNMC.”
