CEDARS Breaks Ground On Essential Services Expansion

By News Nov 19, 2020 | 6:51 AM

CEDARS is launching the public phase of its capital campaign, The Heart of CEDARS. The $3.5 million project will add more than 3,800 square feet of space to Southeast Nebraska’s only emergency shelter for youth and make other essential campus updates to improve outcomes for the kids and families they serve.

To date, the campaign has raised $2 million toward its goal.

“For nearly 75 years, CEDARS has prioritized the safety and health of the kids in our care, and that hasn’t wavered since the pandemic began. As we face this public health crisis, the needs of the kids and families CEDARS services continue and even intensify,” a news release said. “The pandemic adds a sense of urgency to The Heart of CEDARS as CEDARS seeks to serve even more kids while many other emergency shelters in Nebraska have closed their doors.”

To meet the need as quickly as possible, project construction began in October and is expected to continue through Spring 2021.
