Woman Rams Officer With Wheelchair To Prevent Arrest

By News Oct 23, 2020 | 10:35 AM

On Thursday, October 22nd police were called at 15th and Washington around 10:30 a.m. on a trespassing call.  A woman told police that several people she allowed to stay in her apartment left behind property and dogs.  40-year-old Kimberly Kennedy told officers she was unable to contact the owners.  Officers called Animal Control to assist in removing the dogs and finding a safe placement.

Officers then learned that Kennedy had three warrants for her arrest.  While officers were explaining the warrants Kennedy became upset and insisted that she go inside her apartment.  Kennedy then rammed her wheelchair into an officer’s legs causing him to fall, hitting his arm on the edge of a step.

Kennedy then threw herself onto the officer.  Another officer observed the struggle occurring with Kennedy and the other officer.  That struggle lasted several minutes before taking Kennedy into custody.  She was arrested for outstanding warrants and for 3rd Degree Assault on an Officer.

The officer was treated at a local area hospital for a deep tissue bruise on his arm.
