Stolen Public Works SUV Collides With StarTran Bus

An arrest is made in the theft of a Lincoln Public Works SUV just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 23rd.  The worker was near South 10th and N street and had left the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox in the westbound turn lane and was conducting official business on the other side of the street.  He turned around about 3 to 5 minute later and noticed the vehicle was gone.

Two witnesses saw a man, later identifed as 24 year old Jacob W. Jones, walking down the sidewalk.  He got into the SUV and left the scene..

At 12:34 p.m., the city vehicle collided with a StarTran bus near West P and Capitol Beach Boulevard.  Jones then tried to run from the scene but the bus driver held him down until police arrived.  Officers investigating the accident determined that jones was under the influence of alcohol.    No one was hurt in the collision with the bus.

Jones was booked for theft by unlawful taking, DUI, reckless driving, driving with a revolked license, leaving the scene of an accident and for no seat belt use.
