ICYMI: High School Students At LPS Will Return To In-Person Learning On October 19

By News Sep 23, 2020 | 8:55 AM

Lincoln Public Schools is shifting to in-person learning at the high school level on October 19 ending nine weeks of the 3-2 plan.

Superintendent Dr. Steve Joel says this will be subject to current community conditions and work with with the health department on the transition.

“I want to be clear it has to be contingent on local conditions and our were work with Lincoln-Lancaster Health Department,” Joel says.  “Right now, we feel comfortable with that.”

He added given the number of remote learners at the high school level, high schools will still only be at 70-80 percent capacity.

“We think maybe some parents will move from the A-B schedule to fully remote learning.  We won’t fully know that yet.  We’re announcing it now to fully prep,” Joel says.

LPS’s last update of their COVID-19 dashboard shows 86 total cases since Aug.12.  Sixty-eight of the district’s population is self-isolating. Two-percent of students are reporting absent due to any kind of illness.

“Conditions can certainly change.  We think this will provide relief to high school teachers in regards to the number of remote learners they have and certainly answer the question we’ve been getting a lot from parents who feel like their student is missing out on the full high school experience,” Joel says.
