A somber moment of recognition with the Lincoln City Council honoring Police Officer Mario Herrera who died after being shot in the line of duty.
“Where as Investigator Herrera was a loyal police officer who served countless victims, solved many crimes and protected Lincoln residents with great care, perseverance and compassion.”
Councilman James Michael Bowers introduced a proclamation calling it the council’s “highest” tribute.
“Investigator Herrera shall be remembered and honored. In recognition of his dedicated, loyal and respected service, the city council here by their highest tribute to the service and sacrifice of Investigator Herrera,” Bower said.
Defense Attorney Shirley Mora James commended Herrera’s work.
“His is a good guy. He was one of the best, if not the best.”
Several LPD officers lined the back of the chambers. Herrera was buried on Saturday.
