Stolen Vehicle Crash Ends With Arrest Of Suspect With Five Warrants

The driver of a stolen vehicle took out a number of mail boxes and hit a tree at 16th and Fairfield Street just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver, 21 year old Austin Baldwin took off running in the North 20th and Benton Street area.  Officers gave chase and Baldwin ran through a number of back yards before he was taken into custody.  No one was injured.   Police were helped by witnesses and through video footage from neighbors.

The vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet HHR had been reported stolen out of South Dakota on June 17th.  Inside, officers found brass knuckles in the driver’s seat.  Baldwin had five active warrants and his driver’s license was suspended.

Baldwin was booked for theft by receiving, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, obstructing a peace officer, willful reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.
