Motorcycle Listed On Marketplace Stolen And Recovered

By News Aug 5, 2020 | 12:09 PM

Another warning from Lincoln Police about selling items online.

On July 29th, officers were called to a parking lot at 32nd and Grainger Parkway around 2:30 p.m.  A 19 year old had advertised a yellow Honda motorcycle for sale on Facebook Marketplace for $2,800.  He was contacted by a man interested in buying it.  The two agreed to meet at a church parking lot to conduct the sale.

The man wanting to buy the motorcycle took it for a test drive around the parking lot.  A few minutes later, he left the parking lot at a high rate of speed and did not return.  He was not wearing a helmet but did go to a waiting car, received a helmet from someone inside and took off.

Police tracked down 24 year old Benjamin Kawamura.  There were five felony warrants for his arrest ranging from drugs, weapons to theft.

On August 4th at 6:30 p.m., police found Kawamura at a home in the 1700 block of N 27th Street.  There was a motorcycle in the back yard that had been spray painted black.  The VIN number matched that of the stolen motorcycle.  Kawamura was booked on the outstanding warrants and for theft by unlawful taking.
