Lincoln police made two arrests in deadly shooting death on A Street between 17th and 27th Thursday afternoon at 2:39 p.m.

The victim is identified as 69-year-old Sharon Johnson of Lincoln.  She was the only passenger on the Lincoln City Bus heading eastbound that afternoon.  Investigators determined that the bus was moving when a bullet hit the driver’s side of the bus, hitting Johnson where she was seated.  Using video evidence,  investigators determined the shot was fired from a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of the bus.

After interviewing witnesses and looking at video evidence, Lincoln Police located the suspects vehicle at the Kwik Shop at 2940 N 14th Street.  Police located 27-year-old Joel Jones Jr. who was arrested at 5:36 for 2nd-degree murder, discharge of a firearm into a vehicle, use of a weapon to commit a felony and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. Jones was found in possession of a firearm that matches the caliber of the shell casing found at the scene.  Only one shot had been fired at the bus.

Investigators identified 19-year-old Jarell Wheeler as the driver of the vehicle and arrested him for accessory to 2nd-degree murder.

Investigators say Johnson was not the intended target of this shooting and it was a random act of violence.

the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
