LPD To Review Excessive Force Policy, Decisions Announced June 30

By News Jun 23, 2020 | 11:53 AM

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Bair announces city police will have a mid-year, expedited review of their use of force policy in response to concerns of nation-wide police brutality.

Gaylor Baird said proposed revisions from LPD include a wide array of practices.

“(It includes) a codification of sound de-escalation strategies, practices intended to minimize the use of deadly force, the use of neck restraints, more comprehensive reporting and a more robust duty to intervene.”

Baird says the announcement of revisions will come on June 30 followed by a period of public input.

The Citizen Public Advisory Board will then review all suggested changes to the use of force policy better known as General Order 1510.

“LPD wants to be part of the solution that ensures that everyone in our community feels safe and secure in the knowledge that Lincoln is a place that people are firmly committed to building a just and equitable world.”
