Daily Police Brief: LPD Officer Assaulted, LPS Student, Staff Sent To Hospital After Altercation

Assault on a Police/Correctional Officer

A man is in jail after assaulting a Lincoln Police officer. Twenty-three-year-old Jamel Hudson reportedly spit at officers, kicked them and hit one in the face causing swelling. Police arrested him after complaints he, along with others, were smoking and yelling outside of a 40-year-old man’s house.

When LPD asked the group to leave, Hudson pulled out a pipe and refused before officers subdued him.

Hudson was cited and lodged for 2 counts of 3rd Degree Assault on an Officer and Disturbing the Peace.

LPS Student, Staff Member Sent To Hospital

District officials say a Lincoln High School student and a staff member were treated at a hospital after the student struck the staffer. Administrators say the 17-year-old and the supervisor of in-school suspension were walking down a hall Tuesday when the student hit the staffer.

Other staffers rushed to break up the melee, and the staffer and student fell to the floor, hitting their heads. A district spokeswoman says the two had been talking as they walked down the hall but were not arguing.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Police are investigating the incident.
