The city is stepping back on the 14th and Old Cheney roundabout. An email to area businesses from Lincoln Transporation Interim Director Tom Casady says that a low bid of $39.3 million just for construction of the roundabout came in higher than expected. Casady adds that other project costs would add about 20 percent which is significantly more than they anticipated and believe it is more than they could handle with value engineering.
Casady says that as a result, they are going to step back and determine if there are significant changes that can be made to reduce the scope of the project. They will then evaluate whether it is advisable to rebid a modified project for the next construction season.
