Memorial Stadium; Haymarket Arena Drawings Released
The future look of sporting venues in Lincoln became more clear Wednesday as the University of Nebraska and the city released separate glimpses into the future of Memorial Stadium, the new Haymarket Arena and other projects.
NU athletics made available more detailed drawings and computer 3D images of the new East Stadium expansion at Memorial Stadium Wednesday night. The $63.5 million dollar project will add a total of 6,000 more seats to the stadium including regular, club and suites. The project will also house two academic centers, one of which will study sports medicine and head injuries.
While construction of the stadium project will begin in earnest later this year and conclude by 2013, earth moving and site cleanup at the location of the new Haymarket Arena is already underway. Haymarket Now released the first technical view of the interior of the arena Wednesday. While these drawings are schematic and not colorized, they do give a view of the floor plan of the new structure revealing a basketball-first design. Sight lines will be maximized for basketball though the new building will allow for other sports and entertainment events that require a larger floor plan.
