New Study Shows More Children Living with Extended Family

14,000 Nebraska children are being raised by family members or close family friends.

Sarah Forrest with Nebraska Voices for Children tells KLIN News that kinship care is a good alternative for children who aren't able to remain with their parents.

Forrest says many family members who take on parental responsibilities with often-limited incomes struggle to meet the basic needs of children.

She says increased awareness and access to government and community programs to support kinship care providers can help solve the problem.
