As we continue to celebrate this Christmas season, it is time for all of us to remember the reason we celebrate this occasion. Of course, that reason is different for different folks. A huge majority of the people in the world would say the reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
But there is no actual proof that the 25th of December is his actual date of birth, but we know it was during this season. It is also celebrated by others for different reasons ,and history shows that the season has held different meanings for different peoples through the years, but these reasons seem to share certain elements, including most of all, concern for others and the giving of gifts, including gifts of love and help as well as material things. So it is sad to see the intolerance of some for the feelings of others and try to impose their particular religious beliefs on others.

Can’t we all celebrate in our own personal way, without insisting that others must not tread on our beliefs by publicly celebrating their own?
It seems that most religions have one commonality and that is a belief in a supreme being. Most also proclaim love for their fellow beings. That, to me, means tolerance for one another and respect for their beliefs. It seems very unreligious, to me, for any group to try to force their beliefs on another.
That certainly is not the “reason for the season”. Merry Christmas!
I’m Roger Larson, and that’s the way I see it.
