Attorney General Seeks Supreme Court Opinion On Selecting County Election Commissioners

Civic Nebraska applauds Nebraska Attorney General’s decision to take the appointment of some of Nebraska’s election commissioners to the State Supreme Court.

Attorney General Doug Peterson had said earlier that the appointment rather then election of commissioners’s in Lancaster and Douglas and five other counties is “constitutional suspect”.

Civic Nebraska Director of Voting Rights John Cartier says:  “We applaud this decisive action the attorney general.  This is a serious constitutional issue that is meant to be resolved, once and for all, by the Court.  Civic Nebraska will keep all legal options on the table as we continue to seek a definitive Constitutional resolution.”

Lincoln State Senator Matt Hansen had requested the opinion.
