Lincoln’s Fire Chief Is Retiring

Lincoln Fire Chief Michael Despain announces he is stepping down. He came to Lincoln Fire and Rescue just three years ago after a 32-year fire service career in California.

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird thanked Despain for his work to maintain one of the best cardiac survival rates in the nation. He was also credited for his work toward replacing 13 outdated fire apparatus. Gaylor Baird mentioned Despain’s successful efforts in implementing the fire station relocation plan and improving response times by 8 percent despite an 18 percent increase in workload.

Despain’s final day at LFR will be March 6, 2020.
