Nebraska Appleseed Is Concerned About Federal Guideline Changes Impacting Legal Immigrants

A major medical association says new federal guidelines that could be used to deny green cards to immigrants who use public assistance like Medicaid will have drastic consequences on health care.

Nebraska Appleseed spokesman Omaid Zabih has similar concerns. He tells KLIN News that it penalizes immigrant families when they struggle to make ends meet.

The Association of American Medical Colleges says the rule change will discourage noncitizen immigrants from seeking needed medical care and services. The could exacerbate illnesses, worsen health disparities and lead to increased costs of care.
