Lincoln Southeast graduate and Texas A&M pitcher Nolan Hoffman was selected in the fifth round of the MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.
He was 148th pick overall, and will report to training camp in Arizona in 5-10 days.
Hoffman’s head coach at A&M is former Husker pitching coach Rob Childress.
Hoffman, a junior, finished the 2018 season with a 1.15 ERA in 33 appearances, striking out 53 batters and walking only 12. He spent his first two years of eligibility at Hutchinson (KS) Community College.
Hoffman is the highest MLB Draft pick from Lincoln since Joba Chamberlin was taken 41st overall in 2006.
